It is challenging to find clients who want to commit to a path and the training and time it might take to get there. Many folks need an immediate solution to their unemployment and do not have the time/resources to dedicate to career pathing.
I faced a communication challenge within a personal relationship. The challenge is that we were both presenting information and not actually communicating with one another and it did not go as well as it could have gone. We had a second conversation regarding the topics (that we "communicated about" during our first meet up) and it went better as we talked about our feelings and perceptions (in relation to the information we were sharing).
I practice critical thinking daily with my clients when listening to their needs and evaluating the options of support I might provide. I challenge any assumptions I am making while listening as sometimes I prepare options or solutions in my mind that are not even needed in that particular situation or conversation.
Periodic review of my goals (professionally and personally) and self-review to identify gaps in my own knowledge and skills.
Advice I would give someone. would include the following:
Create an agenda ahead of time when meeting with multiple stakeholders. If you want to get the most out of the meeting, you should put thought into the agenda and establish goals ahead of time. This will help everyone involved be prepared and understand the way the meeting will flow.
